Records abstracted from the ledger of the Bird and Mott Funeral Home, Detroit, Michigan, 1922-1944. Information includes the name of the deceased, date and place of birth, date and place of death, cause of death, and interment. The interments took place in many different cemeteries in Wayne and Oakland Counties, as well as a number in other places in Michigan and out of state. Index to the 1880 Federal Population Census of Macomb Co., MI
This is an index to the 1880 Federal Census taken in Macomb County, Michigan. A total of 31,627 persons resided in Macomb County in 1880. Each name listed in the index is followed by a symbol composed of letters and numbers. The first two letters of the symbol form an abbreviation referring to the township, and, occasionally, the village in which the person resided. The three numbers in the symbol refer to the page number in the census on which the name being researched can be found. A final letter in the symbol differentiates sheet A or B of that census page. These marriage and death records were abstracted from five Grand Rapids newspapers for the years 1847-1866. Michigan initiated vital record registration in 1867 making these earlier marriage and death records valuable to researchers. Arrangement is first by marriages, followed by the more numerous death notices. Notices in the newspapers would include information about persons both currently and previously living in the region. Marshall, MI Marriage and Death Newspaper Notices
Marshall, Michigan was settled in 1830 and named for John Marshall, the former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. These marriage and death notices were abstracted from Marshall newspapers. Many of the townships of Calhoun County had their notices published in these newspapers. Announcements of marriage and death are not limited to the geographic region where they are reported. Often, notices are published about former residents who have relocated to other areas of the state and elsewhere. Many times, notices were placed about family members who lived in other locations. This volume is not just a Marshall Michigan reference. It provided a great deal of non-Marshall research information as well. Marriage Notices are presented first. Death Notices follow along second. Michigan Voyagers from the Notary Book for Samuel Abbott, Mackinac Island, 1806-1818
This is a transcription of the 29 page list of "Engagements Passed by S. Abbott, N.P. at Michilimackinac. Mt. Elliott Cemetery Burial Records, 1845-1861, Detroit, Wayne Co., MI
Mt Elliot Cemetery had its first burial in 1841. The cemetery began as an Irish Catholic cemetery, Mt. Elliott soon contained the burials of those of German and French descent as well. The cemetery is still in active use today. This book contains the chronological list of plot sales and burial records from 1845 to 1847 from the archival holdings of the Detroit Archdiocese. Burials from 1854 to 1861 are taken from weekly or monthly reports filed with the Detroit City Clerk's Office which has been submitted to the sexton on the cemetery. Information contained includes (if recorded) date of burial, name, age, cause of death, place of death and nativity. Soft bound, 74 pages, indexed, published in 1994. Mary Lou Duncan.

Passage to America 1851-1869: Records of Richard Elliott, Passenger Agent, Detroit, MI
The records in this book have been transcribed form the account ledger of arranged passages booked by Richard Robert Elliott from 1851 until 1869. The ledger contained a listing of all of the passengers (mostly emigrants traveling from Great Britain and Europe) ticketed. A large percentage of the listing were Irish still emigrating after the famine years. The entries are in chronological order, listing both the name of the passenger and the person paying for the passage. Also listed are those who obtained passage from Detroit outward. Record of the Juvenile Inmates of the Home for the Friendless, Detroit, Wayne Co., MI 1862-1868
The Home for the Friendless dates back to May of 1860 when the Ladies' Christian Union was organized. It took in homeless women and children and "stray old ladies". Some of the children that were there were the children of inmates in jail or in the Detroit House of Correction. In 1866, the home took in as boarders the children of widows and persons in service. Reports of City Physicians, 1860-1869, Detroit, Wayne Co., MI
The City Physicians were an office held in the City of Detroit beginning in May of 1829. This office was created because of the fear of smallpox. By the year 1847, City Physicians were appointed by the City Council. Salary in 1860 was $300 per year and were to furnish all medicines to the poor at their own expense and also vaccinate citizens against smallpox. These reports were extracted from those filed by City Physicians to the City Clerk's Office on a monthly basis. Soft bound, 135 page, indexed, published in 1995. Patricia Ibbotson
