The "Mackinac Notary Book 1806-1818", is a list of "Engagements passed by Samuel Abbott, Notary Public at Michilimackinac". This list is a record of the men who powered by large birch bark fur trading canoes westward from Mackinac. The voyagers were not local Mackinac men, but probably lived in Quebec. Nearly all have French names. Samuel Abbott had been appointed Notary Public at Mackinac in 1805. Abbott served as Justice of the Peace, Collector of Customs, Judge of Probate, Militia Lieutenant, and census taker. Second printing. 49 pages, softbound
